Photographic Archive of the Illustrated Daily Courier

The collection consists of photographs from the press-publishing house of the Illustrated Daily Courier, the owner of the photo-agency ‘Światowid’. The publishing house operated between the years 1910 - 1939, and during the interwar period was at its peak, becoming the biggest press concern in Poland.

The collection comprises of 188,000 items dated 1910 - 1939 (mostly glass negatives and matt print positives but also film negatives and gloss print positives), divided into four groups:
• 2nd Republic period - with very well documented topics, such as: the Polish Government, social, political and religious life, culture, education, military, sport and the life of emigrated Poles.
• World War I - with the majority of pictures relating to the Polish Legions.
• Pre-World War I period
• Foreign photo-agency partners of the Illustrated Daily Courier.
